February Birthstone: Amethyst

That beautiful purple crystal we all know and love so much! You truly can never have enough amethyst!

Geology: Did you know amethyst can be found in Canada? Even in Ontario?! Visiting the mines in Thunder Bay are an incredible experience! There is literally piles of it everywhere! There are multiple places to visit along the vein, but my favourite were the little spots where the passion for the crystals was so evident - I definitely tried to avoid the big tourist spots!

Here’s a photo of me living my best life mining amethyst in Thunder Bay during a 2021 road trip!

Metaphysically: Amethyst has been called the “Master balancer!” It is known to do a little bit of everything. Not sure what you need - try some amethyst. It allows a sense of overall calm and peace which allows your mind to refocus and for rediscovery within your spiritual centre.

February theme: L-O-V-E

Yup. I said it. LOVE. Whether it is self -love, love for our family, friends or other important connections in our lives February is the heart of Valentine’s Day which has created an overall American energy focused on all things love. February is the month we take the time to take care of ourselves. We make time to show those around us how important they are to us. Love is funny. Two sides of the same coin. We find love both in what we give to ourselves and our own self-love, as well as what we give to others and what we receive from them.

It is important to shine our lights and remember our bright lights, but it is also important to remember that the more we love ourselves, and our lives that we have the choice to create - the more we can provide love to those around us. I have a couple different crystals that I love to use for love. Strawberry Quartz and Rose Quartz are two of my favourites. I find strawberry quartz to be more gentle in the love that it promotes which is great for a wounded heart. Rose Quartz is the typical love crystal.

On the flip side - if you are struggling being open to receiving the love that is being shown to you because it may not be provided in EXACTLY the ways we think it should be then green aventurine or emerald is a great crystal to open our minds to being able to see and receive the love that surrounds us even if it is provided to us in a different way then what we might be most expecting.
